A Little Bit About Us

23 years ago the story of Tiddlywinks Day Nursery started at our Hill Lane nursery. In 1994 the family run business began with husband & wife David and Imelda Mihell following the conversion of a previous farmhouse where the family had lived. Imelda oversaw the day to day running of the nursery as manager creating a nursery full of character and charm which the children and families viewed as a home from home.

Over the years Tiddlywinks have steadily expanded from their original 18 place nursery to their current provision of six nurseries providing daily care for over 600 children and Tiddlywinks 4 Out of School Clubs providing daily care for over 120 children.

Our aim is to provide a High Quality Childcare service ensuring that your child will be in a warm, professional and caring environment.

We have continually and successfully developed and have been recognised for our standards and dedication to childcare through national initiatives including Investors in Children, Investors in People, Quality in Play and locally through Manchester’s QAF award.

Ofsted Outstanding

We are registered with OFSTED and comply with all aspects of the Children's Act 1989. Four of our nurseries have been inspected within the last three years and they are all graded OFSTED outstanding!

Our Higher Blackley nursery was inspected in January 2013, Hill Lane was inspected in May 2014 along with our Crumpsall nursery and our Clayton nursery was inspected in August 2014 all with OFSTED outstanding grades.

Staff members have extensive valuable experience, in addition to possessing NNEB, BTEC and NVQ level 3 in childcare qualifications. OFSTED standards require 50% qualified staff, we thrive to provide 100% qualified staff within all of our nurseries.

The ethos of developing staff through care, nurture and praise continues from the foundations Imelda put into place 21 years ago. Staff play a vital role in the development of the nursery ensuring they provide the best possible care and education for the children.
