Tiddlywinks Nursery GroupAbout us
Founded in 1994 by David and Imelda Mihell, Tiddlywinks Nursery Group started its journey in a converted farmhouse at Hill Lane, which was also the Mihell family home. Under Imelda’s leadership, the nursery quickly gained a reputation for its warm, nurturing environment, akin to a ‘home away from home’ for children and families.
Who are we?
Our story began in the summer of 1994, when Imelda and David Mihell founded Tiddlywinks Day Nursery. What started as a small family business, quickly grew into a thriving childcare service and developed into a welcoming space for children, with our first nursery opening its doors on Hill Lane, Blackley.
Originally based in a converted farmhouse where the family had lived, our first nursery provided care for just 18 children.
Our passion & core values
From the very beginning, Imelda was at the heart and forefront of day-to-day operations, bringing her expertise and passion for early years education to every aspect of the nursery. She worked closely with families to create an environment that felt just like home, a place where children could feel comfortable, supported, and inspired. The sense of warmth and community became our core focus, something that continues to shape our fundamental growth and success today.
Our nurseries
Over the years, our nurseries have expanded significantly across Greater Manchester. From that first small nursery, we now operate 7 nurseries, providing care for over 800 children every day. We also operate 4 Out of School Clubs that serve over 150 children. As we’ve grown, our values have remained the same, to ensure every child in our care feels part of our warm and welcoming day care.
Our team
In 2012 our growth took another exciting turn when Ashley and Ben commenced their successful studies at university upon completing their degrees. With their involvement, they introduced new ideas and approaches that have been essential for Tiddlywinks to ensure the continued expansion and development. Their fresh perspectives have allowed us to grow while maintaining the family first principles that have always defined our company.
Our efforts have been recognised with national awards too, both for our dedicated staff and our leadership team. However, our proudest achievement remains the trust and strong relationships we’ve built with families we provide childcare for.
