Ofsted ‘outstanding’ local nursery

Tiddlywinks Blackley has always achieved great grades from Ofsted. This is thanks to our consistent dedication to high quality teaching and developing young people. Our nursery is renowned for its exceptional childcare for children aged 0 to 5 years. Tiddlywinks Blackley stands out not just for its high-quality childcare but also for the deep sense of community, educational enrichment, and the warm, nurturing environment we provide.

Community and educational connections

Part of our ethos we maintain strong links with local educational and cultural institutions, including children’s centres, the library, and a care home, enriching the children’s learning experience. Our Blackley nursery offers a homely and calming atmosphere, enhanced by a sensory garden that provides a natural, stimulating outdoor experience for the children.

The nursery has evolved significantly since its inception — a major development in 2014 expanded our capacity to 62 children, a startling increase from the original 18 places. It offers a warm, home-from-home environment where every child feels safe, valued and able to belong. Set in a converted farmhouse, we’ve maintained a welcoming, family feel where children are supported by caring staff who know them well.

Working closely with parents and carers, we build strong partnerships and a real sense of community. Our broad early years curriculum, alongside our self-developed Tiddlywinks ABC curriculum, supports every child to achieve their potential through engaging, meaningful learning experiences. Through nurturing relationships and inclusive practice, we create a place where children truly belong, achieve and thrive, developing confidence and a love of learning for the future.

Our Blackley Nursery Manager

Greg

I have a real passion for childcare and have worked in the early years sector for over 17 years, beginning my career as an apprentice at just 16 years old. I started my journey in Scotland before moving to Manchester at 18, where I have since gained experience working across several boroughs including Salford, Wigan, Bolton and now Manchester.

Throughout my career, I have remained committed to ensuring every child has the opportunity to grow, thrive and have the very best start in life. I am particularly passionate about developing and supporting high-quality staff teams, which led me to complete my Assessor’s Award so I can help train and mentor early years professionals. I also have a strong passion for supporting children with additional needs and completed my Level 3 SENCO qualification to further strengthen my ability to support inclusive practice within the nursery.

As Nursery Manager, I am dedicated to creating a nurturing, high-quality environment where children, families and staff feel valued, supported and inspired to achieve their full potential.

Our Nursery Sensory Garden

Our sensory garden is a work in progress and will be transformed into a wonderful ‘Baby garden’.

Focus on Nutrition and School Readiness

We pride ourselves on providing home-cooked meals and a thoughtful weaning programme that supports children’s early development. Our School Readiness Programme helps prepare children for the transition to school, and we also deliver three school readiness sessions each year to support parents and carers with this important milestone.
