Qualified educational leadership

The nursery is led by a manager with an Early Years Foundation Degree, ensuring professional and knowledgeable care. We pride ourselves on good staff retention, ensuring continuity and familiarity for our children. Staff are first aid trained, with age-relevant training, emphasising our pledge to safety and expertise.

Tiddlywinks Nursery Clayton offers a warm, community-focused environment with a unique blend of nature and learning. Our setting includes a spacious outdoor area with outdoor equipment and a mud kitchen designed to encourage exploration and investigation. We are also home to our much-loved nursery pet, Dave the tortoise, who adds to the children’s learning experiences.

Throughout the nursery, we provide enhanced provision, creating rich and stimulating opportunities that support every child’s development. We also now offer a OOSC provision collecting from Ravensbury & St Willibrords school. And we have a Holiday Club facility too.

Unique outdoor play area

We boast one of the few nurseries in the area with extensive grounds and space, providing an ideal setting for outdoor learning and play, which is crucial for development.

Sports and community sessions

Our children enjoy weekly sessions with ‘City in the Community’, promoting physical activity alongside health and wellbeing.

The benefits of outdoor play

Outdoor play is invaluable for a child’s development, providing significant physical and mental benefits:

  • Physical Health & Fitness — Active outdoor play is essential for developing strength, balance, coordination, muscles and healthy bones.
  • Motor Skill Development — Navigating different outdoor environments and play equipment helps children refine vital fine and gross motor skills.
  • Essential Vitamin D — Regular exposure to sunlight facilitates Vitamin D absorption, which is crucial for bone health.
  • Building Confidence and Independence — Allowing children the freedom to explore and navigate outdoor settings independently fosters self-confidence and a sense of autonomy.
  • Enhanced Learning and Curiosity — The outdoor environment serves as a dynamic, hands-on classroom that stimulates exploration and a natural curiosity about the world.
  • Social and Teamwork Skills — Outdoor play naturally encourages social interaction, problem-solving and collaboration as children often work together to achieve goals.
